You can get the process started by scheduling a free 15-minute consultation with me. Consultations are free 15-minute meetings where you get a chance to meet your potential therapist and ask any questions you have about therapy and the therapy process. The goal is for this time to be a safe, easy way for you to determine if you want to pursue therapy with me. If you want to move forward, you can schedule your intake appointment at the conclusion of the consultation. If you want time to think it over or would like any referrals, I can gladly provide those as well.
Upon deciding you would like to work together, we would then schedule your intake session. Prior to your session you will complete intake paperwork via the client portal. At times, the intake session can feel more like an interview than therapy. This session aims to gather information about your history, your goals for therapy, and begin building the client-therapist relationship.

I am partnered with Alma, a membership-based, third party platform that assists therapists with insurance billing. At this time I an in network with Aetna and Cigna. Please reach out for assistance on determining whether your plan includes coverage.
Many clients are self-pay, out of network. Since I am out-of-network, excluding Aetna and Cigna, I am happy to provide self-pay clients with a superbill, a detailed receipt that you can submit to your insurance company for potential reimbursement. Coverage for out-of-network mental health services varies, so it is recommended to contact your insurance provider to learn more about your specific benefits. Some plans offer partial or full reimbursement for out-of-network sessions.

Weekly therapy is generally recommended, as it provides consistency and momentum in working toward your goals. That said, I recognize that weekly sessions may not fit everyone’s schedule or budget. Biweekly sessions can also be effective, depending on your needs. I do not recommend starting therapy on a monthly (or less frequent) basis, as this often does not provide the support or continuity needed, especially in the beginning stages of therapy.
Many clients choose to begin with weekly sessions and then adjust the frequency over time, moving to biweekly or monthly as they feel more confident in maintaining progress outside of sessions. This allows therapy to grow with you and meet your changing needs.

It is very common to feel nervous or anxious before your first therapy session. Take a deep breath! We will go at a pace that feels manageable to you.
As you arrive, please help yourself to refreshments in the waiting area. Have a seat, make yourself comfortable, and I will greet you at your appointment time.
At the beginning of the intake session, we will review policies outlined in your pre-appointment paperwork and make sure any questions you have are answered. Next, we will dive into your story and what you would like to get out of therapy. There will be a lot of questions, but we will only go as deep as you feel comfortable. The purpose of this session is to begin to get to know you and to collaboratively identify what you are looking for out of our time together.
There is a common misconception that you will have to vulnerably tell your entire trauma story at the first session of therapy. Please know this is NOT the case.
